Rules

Many people DO NOT know how to deal with reporters, which is why anyone wanting a story on the air should hire a spokesperson.

But if you plan on talking to the media, here are some "no-no's"

1) Do not call the reporter's cell phone unless its an emergency, or she's expecting a call back.
2) Do not call near the top or bottom of the hour, because this is when reporter is frantically finishing a story
3) Do not demand your story to air at a particular time
4) Do not introduce yourself as "Harry" or "Sally" and expect me to remember you
5) Do not send extremely long emails with complicated subjects

Seriously, Girl. I'd like to add: do not call me a week after we last spoke and ask the specific day and time the story(ies) ran. You won't get an answer.

And zip it with the complaints about how negative the news is, people.

If you don't like the news, don't watch it, listen to it or read it-- but don't rail on me because I'm a reporter.

Zip it up!
